Healthy Brunch in Spain: Açaí, Yogurt Bowls and Matcha
Healthy brunch has a reputation problem. It can sound like a list of things you are supposed to order rather than things you actually want. A good one is simply a bright, satisfying meal with enough flavour that nobody at the table feels like they are missing out. If you are looking for a healthy brunch in Barcelona, Madrid or Valencia, three parts of the Coco Social House menu are worth knowing about: the açaí bowl, the yogurt bowls and the matcha drinks.
Coco Social House is a tropical-inspired brunch café with four locations in Spain: Gràcia and Barceloneta in Barcelona, plus Madrid and Valencia. The menus are not identical from one café to the next, so this guide notes where the details differ.
The Açaí Bowl
The açaí bowl is on the menu at all four locations, and it is the clearest example of the tropical idea behind the café. In Gràcia and Valencia it is made with açaí pulp, banana and coconut milk, topped with Coco Social House granola, shredded coconut, seasonal fruit and homemade peanut cream. The menu marks it as having no added sugar.
In Madrid the bowl is built on açaí with coconut and banana, and in Barceloneta on an açaí base with banana and coconut. Barceloneta also has a mango bowl, made with a mango base, banana and coconut, for anyone who wants a different kind of tropical.
Yogurt Bowls for a Lighter Start
Not every healthy brunch has to be tropical. The yogurt bowls cover the lighter, simpler side of the menu. In Gràcia the Protein Greek Bowl and in Valencia the Protein Yogurt Bowl are the same idea: high-protein yogurt with the house granola, seasonal fruit and a touch of syrup. The Gràcia menu describes it as perfect for a healthy and light breakfast that still keeps you full.
In Madrid and Barceloneta the yogurt bowl is built on a Greek yogurt base with agave syrup and coconut. Both of those cafés also offer a porridge bowl made with oats, cinnamon, agave syrup and coconut, a warmer choice for cooler mornings.
Matcha with a Tropical Twist
Matcha is the third piece, and the menu leans into the coconut theme. The list changes by location.
Gràcia serves a green matcha latte, an iced matcha latte, a matcha orange cooler and a mango matcha made with mango, coconut milk and ice. Valencia has a Cloud Matcha with coconut water, coconut milk and agave syrup, a Mango Matcha with mango puree, coconut milk and agave syrup, and a Vanilla Glow with cinnamon, vanilla and coconut milk.
Madrid's matcha list includes a tropical matcha with mango puree and coconut milk, a cloud matcha with coconut water, a vanilla glow, and coconut matcha lattes made with ceremonial matcha. Barceloneta offers matcha lattes, hot and iced, along with a strawberry matcha and a mango matcha.
Building a Healthy Brunch Order
There is no single right order, but each café has a combination that works. In Gràcia, try an açaí bowl with a mango matcha. In Valencia, a Protein Yogurt Bowl with a Cloud Matcha. In Madrid, an açaí bowl with a tropical matcha. In Barceloneta, a yogurt bowl with a strawberry matcha. Each one pairs something fruit-led and bright with something green and cold.
Where to Find a Healthy Brunch in Spain
Coco Social House has four cafés: two in Barcelona, in Gràcia and Barceloneta, one in Madrid and one in Valencia. Because the menus differ by location, it is worth checking the menu for the café you are visiting before you go. The idea behind all four is the same: tropical flavours and a place where it feels easy to slow down. For a healthy brunch in Barcelona, Madrid or Valencia, that is a good place to start.
